Gospel According to Lost: Sundown
by Scott on Mar.04, 2010, under By Fans, For Fans, Lost Videos, Scott
Here is Pastor Chris Seay’s video blog on “Sundown”. He breaks down last nights episode and compares Emporer Palpatine’s offer to Sayid with the serpent’s offer in the Garden of Eden. Good stuff!

Mark Moring of Christianity Today believes he knows who will be the island’s Savior based on Henry Ian Cusick’s filmography. Cusick played Jesus in The Gospel According to John. What do you think?
Sundown, Otherwise Known as Order 66
by Scott on Mar.03, 2010, under Analysis, Articles, By Fans, For Fans, Recaps, Scott
Each week I have been getting a more and more Star Wars vibe from LOST as the story is unfolding in season 6 (even the fact that there are six seasons-one for each Star Wars movie). Last week, Hurley made a comment that Jacob comes and goes like Obi Wan Kenobi. I immediately went back to THE INCIDENT where Jacob allowed himself to be killed, much like the real Obi Wan Kenobi. I could imagine him telling MIB, “Strike me down and I shall become more powerful than you can possibly imagine.”
In LIGHTHOUSE we see “Obi Wan” Jacob appearing to “Luke” Hurley Skywalker who is trying to convince Han “Jack”
Solo of the existence of both Jacob and the Force. In SUNDOWN, more Star Wars connections for me. As we watched the conversation between Sayid and Flocke, my wife said, “This sounds a lot like Palpatine talking with Anakin.” You know the whole, “I know a way to save Padmay from death” speech? Of course in this case Padmay is Nadia. Then Emporer Flocke gives his new apprenctice “Order 66″. This is the order in “Revenge of the Sith” where all Jedis are commaded to be killed. So what does Sayid do? He goes all Anakin in the Jedi Temple on us and is responsible for the death of many of the Others/Jedis….even the padawons.
This might be a crazy thought, but it sure is fun. The war has started and it can only end once.
The LOSTblog Fan Interview: 16 Questions We Asked Todd Hertz of ThinkChristian.net
by Scott on Feb.09, 2010, under By Fans
I ran across Todd Hertz the week before LA X when I found his site ThinkChristian.net. Todd is also one of the LOST bloggers for Christianity Today. His insights into connections between faith and culture are well worth your read and I hope you will check out some of his stuff. After you read his answers, I think you will agree!
Q: How long have you been watching Lost? If you’ve been watching since the pilot, can you remember your initial reaction to it?
A. I remember all the billboards and commercials about this weird show on an island—and the hobbit saying, “Guys, where ARE we?” I honestly didn’t think it’d be a show I would like. It looked too by-the-numbers and soap opera-esque, but I was into Alias and would give anything from J.J. a shot. I watched the pilot and thought it was just okay. It interested me but didn’t blow me away. I thought I’d give it a few episodes.
Q: How did Lost get its polar bear claws into you? What about it got you hooked?
A. John Locke’s “Walkabout” episode sealed the deal for me. Until seeing it, I was only lukewarm. By the time Locke’s secret was revealed at the end of the episode, I was a die-hard. I loved the storytelling, the gravitas, and the strength of this character.
Book Review: The Gospel According to Lost
by Scott on Feb.08, 2010, under Analysis, By Fans, For Fans, Scott
If you are looking for a book that explains how the TV show LOST will end, The Gospel According to LOST by Pastor Chris Seay is NOT for you. However, if you are interested in pursuing dynamics from the hit show that are tie-ins to Christianity and how the characters of LOST remind us of our own need to pursue a relationship with God, this book is right up your alley.
10 FAITH Reasons We Love LOST
by Scott on Feb.02, 2010, under Articles, By Fans, For Fans, Scott
As I type this we are less than fourteen hours away from season six. Fans are foaming at the mouth (some of us literally) to sink our teeth into the final season of TV’s greatest show. LOST fans are special. I must admit that this is the first time in my life that I have ever had a connection with fans of a show that is this strong (actually I’ve never even had any kind of connection before).
Unlike many LOSTies that I know, I am NOT a television fan. I don’t watch Fringe, or House, or 24, or Dollhouse, or…well…you name it. Honestly, I find that watching television, for the most part, can be a huge time waster in a world where real life is going on. And that brings me to my point. LOST somehow touches real life. We see characters struggling on the road to redemption and we are hopeful ourselves. We believe that our own struggles just may be worth it.

What LOST Questions Would You Like To Have Answered?
by Scott on Jan.28, 2010, under Articles, By Fans, Scott
One of the things that is becoming increasingly clear to me about LOST is this: there is NO way in Dharmaville that EVERY single mystery will be revealed and every question answered. That’s got me and others thinking: what questions do I HAVE to have answered for me to be satisfied with the climax of the greatest television show in history? Well, I don’t believe that there are questions that will ruin the series if left unanswered, so, I’m going to give you five questions that I’d like to see answered, then I’m going to ask you to do the same. Dude, seriously, you better comment or I’m going to have Jon send Smokey after you! The name of the game at LOSTblog is fan interaction…so let’s interact already! We should at least have 20 comments by the end of the day…I’m just sayin’.
Fan Interview: Daniel Rose- Pastor and LOST Addict
by Scott on Jan.24, 2010, under About Fans, By Fans, Interviews, Scott
One of the great things about my LOST beat (I’m the Spiritual Shaman) is that I get to interview people who mentor people in their own spiritual lives about the spiritual dimensions of TV’s greatest show ever: LOST. I had the privilege of interviewing one such LOST fan: Daniel Rose. Daniel is the Assistant Pastor at Grace Chapel in Farmington Hills, MI. His tagline on the web is “A pastor who says: be awesome and don’t suck.” Sounds like something Hurley might say, don’t you think? Please take time to check out Grace Chapel online and Daniel’s blog. You can also follow Daniel on twitter: @danielmrose
Here is what Daniel had to say about LOST:
1. How long have you been watching Lost? If you’ve been watching since thepilot, can you remember your reaction to it?
A. I have been watching Lost sinceseason three. My wife and I watched seasons one and two over a few weeks and gothooked one summer. I remember after watching the pilot thinking, “This may be one of the most unique shows I have ever seen.”
2. How did Lost get its polar bear claws into you? What about it got you hooked?
A. Lost got me because of the development of its myth. I began to see connections to our world but was amazed how the writers kept twisting the story and building a new myth of history and redemption.
3. Favorite character?
A. I like Jack and Hurley. I can’t really pick between the two.
A Tale of Three Docs
by Scott on Jan.22, 2010, under Articles, By Fans, For Fans, Scott
This post was inspired by Doc Jensen’s masterful post in which he compares Lostie, “Doc Jack” to a book written by another Doc, “Doctor Luke” (see, it all makes sense now). “Doc” Jensen points out certain similarities between the storyline of LOST and six chapters from the Gospel of Luke in the Bible (chapters 4,8,15,16,23,24) which make up the Numbers, even though 24 is an inversion of 42. So, I got to thinking, “What if there is something to this?” What if the writers of Lost have borrowed an outline or at least themes from these six chapters of Holy Writ? I mean, come on, they certainly love to use other literature for ideas! Now, while I do believe the Bible is more than literature (you can discuss that with me on my other blog), it certainly is literature, nonetheless. It without a doubt is a book, or a collection of books bound together in one Book. You get the point.
Top Ten Signs You Are Obsessed With LOST
by Scott on Jan.21, 2010, under By Fans, For Fans, Lost Videos, Scott
I know this came out a few years back, but I thought since we are “by fans, for fans, about fans” you would all enjoy Jorge Garcia on Letterman giving the top ten signs you are obsessed with LOST. Holla if it’s you!
Fan Interview: Sharon Kaye, editor of “LOST and Philosophy: The Island Has Its Reasons”
by Scott on Jan.18, 2010, under About Fans, Interviews, Scott
Sharon Kaye teaches Philosophy at John Carroll University and is the chief editor of the book LOST and Philosophy: The Island Has Its Reasons. Amazon.com has this to say about Sharon’s book:
Sometimes it feels like you need a Ph.D. to follow the show. But you don’t. You just need this book in which twenty-one philosophers explore the deep questions we all face as survivors on this planet: Does “everything happen for a reason”? Is torture ever justified? Who are the Others? How do we know we’re not patients in Hurley’s psych ward? What if the Dharma Initiative is experimenting on us? Desmond may not be able to save Charlie, but this book could save you.
Sharon’s book is currently in process of a second edition by the publisher. Very soon you can expect a full review of Sharon’s book right here on LOSTblog.com. Here is what Sharon had to say about the show:
My Name is Scott and I am Addicted to LOST
by Scott on Jan.18, 2010, under By Fans, Scott
My name is Scott Welch and I am addicted to LOST. I am also married, have three rocking kids and am the Pastor of North Fork Baptist Church in Virgilina, VA. I first connected with Jon through the #LOST #WFTB tweet ups (I have been there from the beginning). I love the faith/philosophical angles of the show and hope to bring that dimension to the blog.
I believe without a doubt that not only is LOST a special show, but LOST fans are special fans. I have met so many cool people on twitter and facebook just because I am a LOST fan. I also believe that one reason LOST is so popular because it deals on so many levels with real issues that real people face everyday. LOST is full of life lessons and therefore is more than just an entertaining television show. I will follow suit (like Catherine) and answer a few of our interview questions that we ask our guests.
