Check Out These Way Cool, Fan-Created #LOST Season 6 Promo Vids!

by Amy on Mar.10, 2010, under Amy, Fan Art, Lost Videos

MORE of Amy’s Favorite #LOST Fan Vids via Lost Video Island!

One of my favorite LOST art forms are vids, basically music videos created by using clips of LOST.  Once a week, on LOST day, I’ll be posting a few of my favorite fan vids primarily collected from LOST Video Island – a site dedicated to hosting, viewing and “grading” vids.  [I HIGHLY recommend this site if you want to see LOTS of fun and interesting fan art!]

Big news! ABC is now holding a FAN PROMO CONTEST!  Fans are invited to create and submit a 35 sec promo for the LOST series FINALE (which is only 9 weeks away! Bah!).  Fans can create and submit their own creations directly on the ABC site!  If you want, you can even watch and rate promos submitted by other fans!

[Apparently there's some kind of  "shot at having your work shown on TV!"  OH, and "You can win a trip to a LOST party." (?)]

Amy’s official response:  Uh—Whatever.

BECAUSE, vidders at Lost Video Island have been creating amazing LOST promos for YEARS!  So, in honor of ABC and its promo “contest”, this week’s vids are ALL LOST Season 6 Promos, including our featured vid created by “DJC PRODUCTIONS.”  This vid is first in a serious called “Lost Origins,” and it is AWESOME!

Today’s vid selections: FAN-created LOST Season 6 Promos featuring Claire, Charlie, Juliet, Kate and Jack.

FEATURED VID: “LOST Origins I” by DJC Productions

(I kid you not, ya’ll.  This is a seriously, seriously COOL VID.)

Confirmed: #LOST Disney Petition Finally Delivered to Darlton

by Amy on Mar.02, 2010, under Amy, Awards, Fan Art, Featured, Humor, LOSTblog Exclusives, Lost News & Analysis

Disney Petition:  The Epic Journey Comes To An End

For those of you who don’t know the particulars:  LOSTblog’s very own Jon was the “hard core” LOST fan behind the Petition to ABC/Disney for LOST Themed Ride.  I suggested to Jon that since I was in Hawa’i and definitely going to the beach premiere, I’d be happy to try to present the petition to Damon and Carlton if I could.  Jon thought that might be cool, so once the signature reached a total of 4815, he sent me the file, I created a binder and we did everything we could to infiltrate the very thick layer of peeps around Team Darlton.

Long story short, we ALMOST got it to them!  Karen from Karen’s Lost Notebook hung out with me behind the screen while we waited for “official” word about what was to be.  Karen did “make it in” with the petition in hand, but in the hurry and chaos of scooting all the VIPs off the beach after the premiere ended, she couldn’t connect with Damon and Carlton.   [Many, many thanks to Karen for giving it a go! We appreciate your participation and enthusiasm!]

Undaunted, and irked, I reconnected with a very kind ABC publicity peep (the ABC spokesperson who contributed to the brief write up I did of the premiere) via email, and she offered to receive the petition in the mail and make sure it got sent directly to our boys.  Today I got email confirmation that, YES, that darn thing made it to Darlton’s offices.  No word on any personal reaction or any public comments about the petition. HOWEVER, I’m definitely proud that Paul Scheer brought up the LOST ride idea at the Paley fest!  (I’m also happy they think it’s as funny as we do!)

LOST Character Miis for Your Wii

by Erin on Feb.26, 2010, under About Fans, By Fans, Erin, Fan Art, For Fans, LOSTblog Exclusives

If you have a Nintendo Wii system you know that the avatars you can create for it are called Miis.  You are given a number of choices with hair, eyes, etc, and you can also choose shirt color and give them a name.  I’ve created these Miis for my Wii to look like some LOST characters and posted them on the Check Mii Out Channel, where anyone with a Wii can see them and even copy them to their own systems if they want.

My apologies, there are a limited number of hair styles, etc., so I am continually tweaking them.  If you copied my previous characters, they have all changed but retained the same number, so you would need to re-favorite them if you prefer the updated Miis.  Also, since these photos are of my tv screen, there are some limitations there as well, especially as to color.

All of the Miis on your Wii system will show up in random games.  For me, it’s Wii Fit.  It is so much fun to throw a snowball at Ben while I’m playing Snowball Fight or ride past Richard when I’m doing Island Cycling! If you want to see them on your own system, go to the Check Mii Out Channel on Wii and search the numbers of the characters:

Fantastic Site for Beautiful Free LOST Twitter Backgrounds and More

by Erin on Feb.23, 2010, under About Fans, By Fans, Fan Art, For Fans, Twitterings

Cool, right?  Meet Michaela Velasco of All of Us Are Lost, a recapping site, and Lost SideSteps where LOST-related art is posted.  The recapping site is billed as “a bare-bones approach to recapping one of TV’s most esoteric shows.”

But it was the artwork that first caught my attention.  The Lost SideSteps site is loaded to the brim with amazing, beautiful, FREE Twitter backgrounds and desktop art, as well as other LOST art she has found on the internet.  Her work is truly unique, and absolutely stunning.  I’m looking forward to changing my Twitter background often, using her work.  Complete details on how to make the backgrounds work best are also included on her site here

Go on, go check it out!  She has promised a new one shortly, so keep an eye out on her site, or follow her on Twitter here.  Somehow she always manages to be one of the first people to post breaking news, so she is a highly recommended Twitter follow for all LOSTies.

New and Improved LOST Polar Beer Tees Now Available

by Erin on Feb.21, 2010, under About Fans, By Fans, Fan Art, For Fans

Most of us are familiar with the very cool Polar Beer tee shirt that Carlton wore to the LOST Underground Art opening, and which were available on Tee Fury.  LOSTblog has now learned from the designer, Ian Leino, that so many people wanted the tee but missed it on the day that it was available that he has printed a run himself.

For this printing, I’ve worked personally with a local screenprinter (Image420) to ensure the absolute highest quality prints on American Apparel 100% fine jersey cotton garments to make a shirt that both looks and feels even better than its original printing!

The shirts, as well as pint glasses, pins, DHARMA Beer labels, and postcards, are now available on Ian’s own shop, which can be found here.

LOSTblog.com Exclusive Artist Interview: Rob Jones

by Jacob on Feb.08, 2010, under About Fans, Artist Interviews, Fan Art

From DamonCarltonandAPolarBear.com :

In celebration of LOST’s final season and as a project of fan appreciation, 16 top designers and artists, who are also fans of the show, were commissioned to create artwork celebrating one of the series’ most memorable, and unforgettable, “water cooler” moments. This ultimate “fan art” was then turned into labor intensive, hand-pulled screen prints, limited to an edition of just 300, with less than 200 available to the public through our websites. Each beautiful poster tells its own different story, allowing the fan to relive memorable and influential moments in an artistic manner, as the show’s storied run comes to a close. Once this limited edition print has sold out, they will never be printed again. Celebrate the fandom, community and family created by one of televisions’ greatest shows by hanging a little part of it’s history, inspiration and influence on your wall.

Now that all 16 of the prints have been released, Lost Blog has set out to interview each of the respective artists. All these talented artists have different influences, different backgrounds, and accordingly…different takes on our favorite show. Over the next few weeks we will post our interviews with these incredible talents. Enjoy.

Our 7th interview is with Rob Jones. His piece is entitled “The Swan Station.”

Rob Jones - "The Swan Station"

Rob Jones - "The Swan Station"

LOSTblog: How did you become a fan of LOST?

Rob Jones: I read somewhere the guy that did Alias had a new show. I liked Alias and anyone who gives employment to Victor Garber, so I checked it out.

LOSTblog: Describe the details of how you were contacted to do the poster?

Rob Jones: By phone.  A while ago.  Jensen at Gallery 1988.

LOSTblog: What instructions or parameters were you given for the poster?

Rob Jones: I was told it had to be 18X24.

LOSTblog: What was your process for developing the poster?

Rob Jones: My inspiration was Lost, alchemy, the I Ching, the multi-layered symbolic opportunities of swans, David Bowie’s “Cygnet Committee”, Flowers in the Attic, and the cycle of failure inherent in revolutions.

The only thing I took too long struggling with was the back of the swan.  I largely based it off a swan from an old box of matches.  I had it as is and with the back wings and tail being more suggestive of fire by varying degrees.  It looked too hot-rod, so I kept it as subtle (probably too subtle) as it looks now. LOST VIDS: Let Us Entertain You! “All The Lonely People”

by Amy on Feb.01, 2010, under Amy, Fan Art, Lost Videos

If you’ve never been to Lost Video Island, you are missing out!  It’s a terrific fan site dedicated to creating “vids” using clips from LOST.  If you’ve got the LOST blues, I highly recommend heading over to their main site and looking around.  My favorite section is the “CONTEST” section.  Monthly contests are created and vidders submit their creations for judging.  This vid is from the Beatles’ Song contest from June 2009.  Enjoy!

LOST Merit Badges

by Erin on Jan.24, 2010, under About Fans, By Fans, Fan Art, For Fans

Inspired by the “Twitter” merit badge (see the link below), Twitter user @rrragan designed this fantastic LOST merit badge!

LOST merit badge

And @rrragan found other great fake badges from http://boyscoutstore.com (not affiliated with the scouts) that could easily be adapted for Lostie uses, including a Polar Bear badge http://www.boyscoutstore.com/polar-bear-pm.html and a Locke badge http://www.boyscoutstore.com/bald-growing-merit-badge.html

It all began when he posted the link to the Twitter badge – check it out at http://www.boyscoutstore.com/twitter-merit-badge.html
