John Locke is one of the most complex characters written, and portrayed in LOST. To me his story is as much a part of the show as the character of Jack Shephard. Do you think he is Evil?

One of the things that became apparent when I rewatched LOST last summer is that John Locke is a series of shadows and blurry lines. I remember from watching the first time through that John Locke appeared to be a hero, the man of faith, the man that could help people with their struggles, provide that single nugget of advice that could help people advance. On rewatching after season 5, my initial thoughts changed slightly, knowing after “Further Instructions” that the one consistent character trait of John Locke is per the FBI profiles is that he is amenable to corecion. After the season 5 finale, we’re clued into the fact that this flawed John Locke is still dead in the sand, not alive on the island, and so we’re left to speculate on the character of John Locke.

Some might project that John Locke on the island was never really John Locke, that he died in that first boar hunt, and his persona was taken over by the man in black at that moment, and immediately began plotting his devious long con. Another group of people may consider that John Locke came under the influence of the MiB after that first glorious appearing, and while coerced and manipulated still made choices consistent with John Locke’s oter character traits. But is he evil? I say no.

The best description of John Locke, and indeed all of the Oceanic Survivors, and other groups of others on the island is given by Jacob in “What they died for”:

SAWYER: … I was doin’ just fine til you dragged my ass to this damn rock. JACOB: No, you weren’t. None of you were. I didn’t pluck any of you out of a happy existence. You were all flawed. I chose you because you were like me. You were all alone. You were all looking for something that you couldn’t find out there. I chose you because you needed this place as much as it needed you.

As President Obama takes to the airwaves to control the fallout from the Gulf, we turned to Hollywood and asked Lost executive producer Damon Lindelof for another solution BP hasn’t tried yet: a movie treatment

Armageddoner!
By Damon Lindelof

A greedy, evil corporation has unwittingly created a natural disaster the likes of which the world has never seen. Protocols were ignored. Warnings were unheeded. And none of the damn eggheads in Washington can seem to come up with a way to stop millions of barrels of crude from pumping into the goddamned Gulf, threatening our Americanism!

What we need, ladies and gentlemen, is experience. Experts who know their way around an OIL RIG. But not just any ROUGHNECKS. No. For this crazy plan to work, we’ll need men who have experience with SPACE TRAVEL. Why?

Because we’re gonna reverse-ARMAGEDDON this shit and call it a sequel.

My Q&A with a *really* candid Evangeline Lilly from Lost @Vultureblog

Spoiler section removed.

We’re down to the last five hours of Lost: Four episodes, which includes the two-hour series finale. Tonight’s installment, “The Candidate,” is an ensemble-focused one in which everyone’s favorite guilty-but-in-this-new-dimension-she’s-innocent fugitive from justice Kate Austen plays a major part. Vulture spoke to Evangeline Lilly to discuss not just the future of Kate Austen but, because Lost has officially wrapped, the future of Evangeline Lilly as well. Also, she answers a few Vulture commenter questions.

Congratulations on wrapping the show. Is it weird that it’s all over?
Yeah, it’s surreal. It’s exciting, but it’s really strange. I’ve been preparing for it all year. I think I’ve been preparing for it for three years because we’ve known for so long — on our show we had the bizarre luxury of knowing in advance. I don’t know if there’s such a thing as ever having it feel normal. When you’ve been doing something for six years, then it ends … it’s surreal, but it’s wonderful. Sad and wonderful, all at once.

Even though you know it’s over, is there still a part of you that thinks, Okay, see everyone in six months for season seven?
Not so much. Mainly because we’ve been preparing for it for so long, so we knew that this was coming. I’m just not that person who, when I know something like this is going on, or I know something’s happening, or I know a big moment in my life is coming, I generally tend to just not let it come and go without really giving it its due. I spent my first six months this season desperately savoring every last second of being with this crew and being in Hawaii and all of that jazz. And then, once I had reached that point of feeling like, “Okay, I’ve savored, I’ve enjoyed,” I came to the last two months sort of just letting it go and looking forward and getting excited about what’s next. And that’s been wonderful, too.

So you enjoyed your time, but you’re ready to move on.
Yeah, I think we all are. I obviously can’t speak for the rest of the cast, but I think that’s the general consensus across the board — from cast to producers to crew. People are excited to try on the next chapter of their lives. This show is all encompassing. We have had very little experience outside of the show during the last six years because it’s just so demanding; it requires so much of us. So, it’s exciting to have your freedom back, essentially. So this one is for AMY :) (evil grin). This was a theory that I gave on last nights “We Talk About LOST” podcast and we thought that our very own AMY would say WTF???

So here is is…….

LOST has been a lot about cycles. We can see this with the LOSTies flashing back to the 70’s to be in dharma to participate and cause the Incident and then also with Faraday being sent back to be killed by his own mother. But I believe that there is an even bigger cycle that has been going on in the show. The show may never come right out and say what this cycle is but I believe we now have enough evidence to identify this larger cycle.

Charles Widmore was born in sometime in the year 2005. His mother was Penelope Widmore and his father Desmond Hume. Desmond is then shot by Ben Linus in the year 2007 and sent to the hospital. A short time later we see that Widmore comes to the island to wage war against the MIB. He says that he has a secret package that will help to win the war. Out comes Desmond from the sub. Desmond is now on the island in 2007 without Penny or his son.

Penny goes looking for her father Widmore and Desmond and the island. She gets to the island but shows up in the wrong time with her son. They show up in the 1940’s or 50’s. Penny dies and her son Charlie grows up as a teenager on the island. Richard adopts him and takes him in. He takes his mother’s last name as Widmore and he becomes Charles Widmore. In the 1970’s a man comes walking into the other’s camp named Daniel Farraday and Eloise accidently shoots him. Eloise tells Charles later that Daniel is the baby that she is carrying. She helps the LOSTies detonate the bomb causing the incident that shoots them back to the year 2007. This information is vital to Widmore because when he is kicked off the island in the 1980’s because of him having a daughter, Penelope. He knows all sorts of information having a foreknowledge of history that occurred up to his birth. This is how he becomes a philanthropist and becomes wealthy.

His daughter grows up and begins to be involved with a young man named Desmond. Widmore cannot stand Desmond. It is not until Desmond disappears and shows up on the island that he begins to realize that Desmond was his father that they had gone looking for when he was just a boy. That is the reason that when Desmond comes back to the real world in 2004 Widmore is willing to protect him and tell him how to get back to the island. It is because Widmore knows that in order for him to ever get to the island in the first place Desmond has to be there to get his mother to go looking for him.

Thanks to tv.com for this great interview with Mark Pellegrino:

Getting Lost with Mark Pellegrino

by Steve Heisler TV.com Staff Writer 03/22/10 05:41 PM

Getting Lost with Mark Pellegrino

Actor Mark Pellegrino had a big TV season last year: He scored the part of Jacob on Lost—the secretive protector (?) of the island with shady (??) intentions. Meanwhile, he was appearing on Dexter as Rita’s abusive ex, on Supernatural as Lucifer, and a slew of other fun bit parts including one on Chuck. With Lost, though, Pellegrino went from “that guy” status to being the face of this cultural phenomenon. I called Pellegrino—a man who’s careful and deliberate with his words—to talk about his mysterious role on the show.

TV.com: Did Lost‘s creators have you specifically in mind to play Jacob?

The following information was gathered from Lostpedia, a site dedicated to keeping track of everything you can possibly think of that happens on LOST.

Maybe ya’ll already know this, but it was news to me, so I’m posting it!

By now we all know the numbers (4, 8, 15, 16, 23, 42) correlate to our remaining, original losties (Locke, Reyes, Ford, Jarrah, Shephard, Kwon).  However, closer examination of the remaining names and numbers (by other very lovely, meticulous LOST fans) reveals a few blasts from the past.  [To see the entire list as currently posted, check out the complete comparative table at Lostpedia.]

#20 — Rousseau [Danielle]

#31 –  Rutherford [Shannon]

#48 — Stanhope [Goodwin]

This entry is part 3 of 13 in the series Pre-Hash by Jon

Well, here we are starting the second trimester of the birth of the final episode of LOST. What does that have to do with anything? To be determined. (Just keeping my options open)  I appreciate the feedback I’ve gotten on my pre-hashes on twitter, and dashed off some homework for people wanting to rewatch some episodes prior to episode 7 of season 6, titled according to my Verizon TV guide, Dr. Linus.  Again this post is spoiler free, I haven’t seen or read any, I just caught a glimpse of the sneak peak that ABC posted on their site, and I’ll claim the @DonaldJr exemption that the show isn’t a spoiler.  I won’t dish on what the sneak peek shows here, I’ll leave it to each or your tolerance for what’s to come.

So here’s my list of episodes that were worth reviewing for what appears to be a Benjamin Linus episode:

Before I start my instanalysis of those episodes, let’s also remake our who’s where chart from last wake, since there was some serious movement in where people ended up by the end of Sundown.  And since we’ve seen some effects of Smokie’s recuriting efforts, I’m gonna color code some names with my judgments of who’s on who’s side.
