While we prepare for the next episode in Season 6 “What Kate Does,” I’ve reviewed the Season 2 episode “What Kate Did”. Some things may bear remembering in how we interpret the episode that airs tonight.
First image is Jin and Sun emerging from a tent (where Ji-Yeon was concieved?) a nice reunion for them after Jin had been on the other side of the island after surviving the raft blowing up in the Season 1 finale. Other things to remember going in: Sawyer is in bad shape after getting shot in the shoulder and is unconscious in the hatch. Shannon was shot in the stomach in the collision between the Tailies and the main group. I’m sure that Sayid’s gut shot wound is just a coincidence. Read the rest of the pay-off of that line.

What Kate did is soooooo horrific that it’s hard to recount on a family blog. So I’ll have to beat around the bush, and reveal to you that Kate … *big sigh* admitted that she has feelings for Sawyer. *pauses to let that sink in* It’ll be okay, y’all, we still got a snippet of Jatey goodness when Kate full on smooched Jack in the woods, but then left him there. *beat* All sorts of other wild things happened as we start down the road that leads to the season 2 finale. Michael and Eko watch the indoctrination film. Eko shows Locke a lost reel of film hidden in his old boook, and Michael is so intent on early 80s computer network design he misses the part that communicating on the hatch computer could blow up the whold wide world! So read through the tweets, and holla if we missed anything. The comments are enabled for a reason, so hit it.
Also, you might be reading this saying to yourself: “This WFTB stuff seems neat, but I’ll never catchup to y’all. I’ll just have to be content to live vicariously through the transcripts…”
I’m here to tell you, “Not so!” Last night we were joined (and rejoined) by three new people that have been working hard to catch up: @TizPro, @Bailey81, @HapiBnBusiMom
LOST – What Could Have Been
by QuothTheRavings on Jul.17, 2009, under Featured, Lost News & Analysis, LostBlog Exclusives
In a world where the planning and casting of Lost happened exactly as the producers had planned, Yunjin Kim (who plays Sun) would have been cast as Kate. Kate would have been the main character throughout the series and would have been more like the character we know as Rose. Jack, who was originally written to be played by Michael Keaton, would have died in the pilot, and because Yunjin Kim’s audition is what made the producers create the characters of Sun and Jin, neither character would be included in the show. Sayid was not in the original script, either. Dominic Monaghan (who we know as Charlie) and Jorge Garcia (Hurley) both auditioned to be Sawyer, a suit-wearing con man, though the characters of Charlie and Hurley were created specifically for the actors. The producers liked Josh Halloway’s edge (according to Wikipedia he “kicked a chair when he forgot his lines and got angry in the audition”).
Locke and Michael were written with their respective actors in mind, however Ben (Michael Emerson) was supposed to appear in only three episodes. His role was extended due to his acting skill and, possibly, because of the way his character developed. Charlotte, played by Rebecca Mader, was supposed to be in only eight episodes of season 4 but her contract was extended, as well. As for why so many characters were added or kept around for longer than intended, series executive producer Bryan Burk has been quoted as saying, “You can have more interactions between characters and create more diverse characters, more back stories, more love triangles.”

This marks the one month point of having Live Tweet-Ups to re-watch episodes of LOST. And we’ve grown quite a bit. There have been some technical difficulties pulling searches from twitter, with some usernames being absent in the transcripts. I think in part because of *blah blah blah technical nerd talk* but we’re working on it.
This episode Sawyer fights against his nemesis, a wild boar that has his number. Wrecks his beachfront property, takes away his tarp and messes up Sawyer’s stuff. Dudes, you all know not to mess with Sawyer’s stuff, so the boar had a big ol’ target on his back/hide. Unfortunately, Sawyer and ‘tracking’ don’t mix well. Luckily Kate tracked Sawyer and helped him on his quest. This lead to a late night game of ‘I never’ between the two, then a early morning wake up to the boar wrecking their camp. Locke stopped by to give his unique brand of island mystical wisdom (this time without the mind bending paste) and finally Sawyer found himself face to face with the boar. And didn’t kill it. Crayzee.
Backstory was all Sawyer and his trek to find his namesake and shoot him for ruining his life, but Sawyer ends up being conned all along. Go figure.
Anyhoo, you don’t come here for my blather, you want to see the tweets from the others, so here ya go.

Once again we had a great group of LOST fans join in to watch LOST together and tweet their thoughts. Homecoming was an interesting episode, the return of Claire brings up lots of emotions. The threats from Ethan in his quest to get Claire back, for whatever reason that is, bring the survivors together in purpose for a least an episode. Jack, Sayid, Locke, and Sawyer team up with Kate (five guns, five men (er, four men one chick)) to take the fight to Ethan. Then things go awry after Jack loses his gun. Read through the live tweet to find the answers. As always, the comments are open for you to add your thoughts.
Next Live Tweet will mark our one month anniversary of tweeting lost live from the beginning. Its been and will continue to be … awesome!

Season 2 and Death
by Brandon on Jun.14, 2009, under Featured, Lost News & Analysis
A couple of weeks ago, I initiated a topic of how the tremendously important theme of death played out over the course of LOST so far. After looking at the role of death in season one and taking a break to discuss leadership and LOST politics, I am ready to further the topic of death as it emerges during Season Two.
If death in season one served more of a social solidifying purpose, season two provides very little in this regard. Rather than examine how death impacts the group as a whole, death in season two seemed more about looking at the effect of death on individual characters.
For better or worse, death was used most memorably this season to stir up drama by putting an early expiration date on some romantic relationships. The sixth episode of season 2, “Abandoned,” closes with a cliffhanger featuring the oft-neurotic Shannon being shot by ever-so-lady-like Ana Lucia. This death event is dragged out to the point where it is featured in three episodes. The shooting takes place in “Abandoned,” is highlighted in a montage in “The Other 48 Days, ” and commences the episode “Collision.” The produces of the show clearly wanted to make the shooting of Shannon a big deal, and I imagine an important factor is the emotional impact the audience should feel for Sayid, who found Shannon’s affections to be a temporary escape from his musings of Nadia. Shannon’s actual death occurs in “Collision,” with a proper mourning from Sayid, who elects not to enact revenge on Ana Lucia’s accident, solemnly stating, “What good would it be to kill you, if we’re both already dead?”
