Welcome LOST fans to another edition of Tweets O’ the Week!  It’s another mega-edition, with another new hashtag and a let’s-watch-the-finale-with-her-through-her-tweets section.  Trust me, it’s very cool.

The standard stuff: THIS IS NOT A SPOILER FREE ZONE so if you’ve not watched LOST from beginning to end, do so and then come back.  Tweets from LOST cast and production are in red, and a list of their Twitter names along with their positions with LOST and current gigs can be found here, including the newest addition to the LOST Twitterverse:

First, something seasonal:

The Group Escape from the CDC

Ooo, looks like it might have been pretty good, doesn’t it?

It wasn’t.

Wow.  Unfortunately, not a good Wow.  It’s a “wow, I expected so much more from a season finale.”  It’s a “wow, I thought it would at least be as good as the other five episodes.”  It’s a “wow, at least I won’t be pining for it while it’s away until NEXT OCTOBER.”  It’s a “wow, if they’re going to do a scene that’s reminiscent of LOST, did it have to be my least favorite scene of the entire series?”

The best scenes from this episode were the first and last, and they were both action scenes.  Action scenes should not, in my view, be the best scenes of this show, because in my mind that’s not writing, that’s directing.  One of the worst conversations comes almost directly after the opening:

  • Jenner: Anybody infected?
  • Rick: One of our group was; he didn’t make it

So the answer is no, right?  Isn’t that what you’d want to say?  And what about Amy?  She was infected, and didn’t make it.

  • Jenner: Why are you here, what do you want?
  • Rick: A chance.
  • Jenner: That’s asking an awful lot these days.

Oh my God, really?

AND THEN Jenner lets them in but tells them “once this door closes it stays closed.”  HEY JENNER, WOULDN’T THIS BE A GOOD TIME TO TELL THEM THAT THE PLACE IS GOING TO EXPLODE IN THE NEXT DAY OR SO?  SO MAYBE THEY MIGHT WANT TO RETHINK THE WHOLE “LETS GO IN” THING? Continue reading »

Welcome to this Special Edition of Tweets O’ the Week!  It’s true, many LOSTies, including me, love the new show The Walking Dead.  Last week, a lot of us tweeted about it – so many that a special edition was warranted.

If you haven’t seen the series, check it out.  It has an ensemble cast, they’re far from home, they can’t get back, they’re in peril… sound familiar?  So many similarities, but in a great way.  I’m no fan of the zombie genre and I love the show.  I have lots of company, some of whom may be familiar to you…

Just as the standard editions of Tweets O’ the Week are not spoiler-free for LOST, these tweets are not spoiler-free for either LOST or The Walking Dead, so you have been warned!

Thanks to Simply Television for sharing this review by @Loster21 of a very LOST-looking episode of The Walking Dead:The CDC door opens just in time.

Opening the hatch The final scene in the church The final scene of The Walking Dead 1.5.

Wow, were there ever a lot of LOST-like scenes in this episode!  The Twitterverse practically blew up with all the tweets from LOST fans asking each other “Was it just me, or did that seem… familiar?”  As an all-in LOST fan myself (note the Twitter name) I couldn’t help but notice them, but when they are done so well and incorporated so beautifully into this caliber of show, I don’t mind a bit.  Let’s go through them, shall we?

The first was the most subtle.  Andrea’s refusal to leave Amy’s body was disturbing, especially when she pulled a gun on Rick.  Even more disturbing was the thought that she might try to somehow rehabilitate Walker Amy as Amy started to transform.  But when Andrea then blew Amy’s brains out, it all became clear.  Andrea wanted as much time as possible with Amy, to somehow try to make up for all the time she had missed, and as a final act of love, make certain that Amy would not become an abomination.  Andrea – like Kate! – was strong and capable of doing what needed to be done. Thanks to Simply Television for sharing this review.

Many people found this to be the slowest episode of the three so far – only three zombie sightings! – but it gets better with every strongly-recommended rewatch; I found a lot of hidden gems during mine.  This episode has been referred to as the “landing” episode, the one where the ensemble reunites and gets its bearings, and to an extent, its division of labor. We become familiar with the new home base and with the remaining ensemble characters, to varying degrees.

I loved that Merle went through the 5 stages of grief when confronting the very real possibility of being taken by the zombies on the Atlanta rooftop. Denial, bargaining, anger (he had those two switched), depression, and acceptance – or action, depending on your point of view. Maybe he accepted the fact that he had to hack off his hand? If only he had known that he was safe from the zombies. If he survives, is it possible that he will become even nastier?

The reveal that Shane told Laurie that her husband died put a whole different spin on every scene with Shane and with Laurie. A rewatch reveals that what she’s thinking is NOT what we THOUGHT she was thinking when she saw her husband and then looked at Shane. “I barely got them out” – so did Shane lie to Laurie to get her to leave, or to get her to leave with him? I expect we shall learn, at least from his point of view, as the story continues to unfold.
