The writers and producers of LOST have consistently demonstrated an apt ability to use death as a tool for exploring the emotional complexities of characters, as well as recognizing the overall social consequences of death for a group and solidarity. Once season three of the show commences, however, the element of death takes more of the role of antagonist over mere condition.

We had a nice little tweetup last night to watch the 22nd hour of season one goodness. This was a Kate-centric backstory that focused on her life as a fugitive and the tension between staying and running. The island drama focused on the raft leaving and gave us a great introduction to Doc Artz, that high school science teacher and part time greek chorus that gave greater urgency to getting the raft off and into the northward blowing trade winds before the reversed during monsoon season. Locke showed Sayid and Jack the hatch, and Jack wants to open it, Sayid thinks that's nutz. Michael got severely sick. Jack and Locke bury their hatchet to work the leads on who's poisioning Mike, but in the end the D.A. decides not to prosecute the perp (Sun. *gasp*)

Last night we re-watched The Greater Good the 21st episode of season one. We coming to the final episodes of season one, and this is what I call a chess-piece episode, moving all the people into the right places for the finale. The consensus seems to be that it was good but not as good as Do No Harm. So read what we wrote, and tell us what you think, or what we missed. And don't forget to vote for what to do on Friday.

This was a great TweetUp... It seems the Locke episodes are heavily salted with big mythos, large storylines that weave through the whole series. After Walkabout where we see Locke was paralyzed on the island, Locke has been present as the resident island guru, talking Jack though accepting the mantle of leadership, helping Charlie with his Heroin addition, even guiding Sawyer on a boar hunt. He's found the ominous hatch with the help of Boone, has excavated around it, exposing its huge shape, but its mysteries are still impenetrable. Much like the final mysteries of LOST going into the final season, we can discern the shape but we don't really know what's on the other side of the bright flash of light.

Can I just say this one thing: I. Love. Hurley. Total man-crush on the dude-spewing dude. He is the voice of the audience on the crazy island and also the moral center for the troop of survivors. He's often a bystander, but when he takes action, he takes it decisively. And this is the episode where we begin to uncurl the awesomeness of Hurley (aka Hugo Reyes). We also get the first peek or the mind-scrambling question of 'The Numbers'. What do they mean, why are they EVERYWHERE. Get your easter basket and dive in with us for an easter egg hunt in this episode of LOST.

A Rose by any other name still falls for Bernard. And yet, there exists a real power in tying identity to one’s moniker. Many cultures elevate names to lofty or even spiritualistic levels. Lewis Spence writes, “in many Australian tribes a man gives up his name for ever at the time when he undergoes initiation into the ceremonies which confer upon him the rights of manhood

Massive thanks to SL-LOST.com reader Adam for the following: Just came back from the Q&A session with Bender, Cuse and Lindelof at Curzon Cinema in Mayfair, London. The producers were in good spirits answering most of the questions; apart from some lame lines from one of the fans, who requested ‘keep the smoke in the show!’ [...]

“I don’t think Lost will have a happy ending,” Michael Emerson told EW’s Michael Ausiello. “It’s the end and I think we are going to start seeing more casualties. I would put money on major characters being killed. I believe it will be a sad ending to the show - or at least bittersweet. I [...]
